I gave up dealing with and ordered my SATA controller from, which is where I should’ve gone in the first place. I ordered the card Tuesday night choosing regular UPS Ground shipping. It arrived today, Thursday! You can’t beat that service and speed. OH, the best part was they got my order right the FIRST time. FTW!

Eforcity SUCKS!

I had an gift certificate and decided to use it to purchase a 4 internal port SATA II controller. had one at a reasonable price fulfilled through a reseller,

My first red flag should’ve been that it was not being shipped from Amazon themselves. Secondly, it was not eligible from Amazon Prime. But I wanted to make use of my gift certificate and proceed with the order. They shipped the card on 7/26/08 and on 7/30/08 I opened the package to find a SATA II controller with 2 internal ports and 2 external ports. This is the WRONG card and the box was clearly marked with a sticker that said 2 external and 2 internal. ARGH! I contact them via email 3 times! Finally I contact Amazon customer support which promptly kicked Eforcity into responding. On 8/1/08, they finally send me a return shipping label, and I return the card on 8/2/08.

Today, I finally received my replacement only 16 days after I got the first shipment. And what did these morons do? send me the same freaking card. The box again stated 2 external and 2 internal ports, but the shrinkwrap had a sticker on it stating it was the 4 internal port version. I open it to verify, nope it’s still the 2 external and 2 internal. ARGH! I mean is it really that hard to fulfull a damn order correctly? Especially when someone returns an item? I’m now trying to get it returned for a full refund. Wish me luck with that.

What have I learned from this? A few things:

  • don’t buy stuff from Amazon unless it comes directly from them
  • avoid at all costs
  • when it comes to computer parts stick with

Today, I went with old faithful,

Busy weekend

It was a busy weekend, Liz went away for the weekend while I watched the 3 kids. They were actually very well behaved and gave me little to no trouble. I was expecting quite a bit 😀 We went to their Friday playgroup, afterwards had the kid’s favorite: McDonald’s for dinner. On Saturday, we went to Border’s to get the kid’s some books, I went with the intention to buy Doctor Who Season 2, but didn’t want to pay the $68 for it. I ended up getting a Doctor Who book instead, yeah I’m as surprised as you that I ended up with a book.

In the evenings I spent the time catching up on my sci-fi shows: finished watching Doctor Who Season 4, saw all of Season 1 (I started with Season 2), and I started watching Firefly (thanks robin). I also managed to get 2 patches submitted and accepted to redstone-xmlrpc, and I submitted the package to jpackage for review. Another library I use all the time is jdbcLogDriver written by a former colleague of mine, I got commit access to it this weekend as well. Today I started to shake the dust off zmugfs. I still haven’t been able to add write access to the file system, and the read mode is extremely slow at startup. I need a better algorithm for downloading the photos and caching them.
